Data Privacy & Security Part 1

The course contains three main modules, including: 1) an introduction to privacy; 2) an introduction to data; 3) Regulations around data and privacy, including industry specific regulations; This course accommodates students who want to pursue a career in data security and privacy law, those who wish to pursue CPPP certification, those who want to pursue a career in an industry that has specific privacy regulations, as well as those students who simply want an introduction to data security and privacy law and practices. A technical background is not required.

At the conclusion of this course, the successful student will competently: Students will demonstrate an understanding of privacy. Students will demonstrate an understanding of data and data security. Students will identify and explain the legal and logical basis for analyzing what individual rights are protected, under what circumstances, and likely future trends. Students will identify and explain consent and ways to improve a company’s safe use and protection of data. Students will identify and explain the basics of and duties surrounding threat, risk, harm, breach and remediation. Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze cases and/or statutes. Students will demonstrate the ability to apply the law to new factual contexts using the traditional IRAC format.
